William Dale Herron, 86, of 103 Green Street, Elon, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Hospice Home in Burlington.

A native of Elkin, West Virginia, Dale was the husband of Doris Oakley Herron, who survives, and the son of the late Jessie Herron and the late Lillie Shreve Herron.
Dale retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3, after serving 20 years in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot. He was also a Master Parachutist. Dale was a member of the North Carolina Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association. Dale later retired from American Jenbach Corporation as a Plant Sales Manager.
In addition to his wife, Doris, of the home, Dale is survived by two sons, Kenneth Dale Herron (Monica), of Elon and Brian Keith Herron (Betsy), of Charlotte; his daughter, Kimberly Herron Mays (Doug), of Burlington; his grandchildren, Alex McGovern (Mike), Connor Herron, Evan Herron, Christine Mays, Jennifer Kamenides (Tim), and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Gary N. Gibson; two sisters, Hazel Ryan and Gertrude Bragg and three brothers, Warren Herron, Charlie Herron and Carroll Herron.
A memorial service will be Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington. The family will receive friends immediately after the service and at other times they will be at the home.
