BURLINGTON - Mr. Freeman Reynolds 'Doc' Rich, 90, of Burlington, passed away Friday evening, May 9, 2014, at Liberty Commons.

Mr. Rich was raised in the Bellemont Community and was the husband of Nancy R. Rich and son of the late Ernest Lee Rich and Bessie Buckner Rich. He was employed for almost 30 years each, first with Pet Dairy and then as co-owner/operator of Old Hickory BBQ in Greensboro until he retired. After he retired he was an assistant manager at the Flowers Bakery Store. He was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church and an Army Veteran of WW II serving with the 14th Infantry Regiment of the 71st Infantry Division.
Surviving, other than his wife of the home, are two sons, David Rich and wife Jenny of Guilford County and Coleman Rich of Burlington; three grandchildren, Brian Fields and wife Heather, Jacquelin Rich and Melissa Rich; two great grandchildren, Benjamin Fields and Jackson Fields; and a brother, Hadsell Rich of Greensboro, NC.
He was preceded in death by three brothers; Oscar Lee Rich, Henry Coleman Rich, and Ford McKenzie Rich and two sisters; Mozelle Rich Nicholson Foster Nordan and Callene Rich Snyder.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 13, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington with the Rev. Ellen McCubbin officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Liberty Hospice for their unwavering care and compassion for Mr. Rich with a very special thanks to Randy Sykes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Davis Street United Methodist Church or the Activities Unit of Liberty Commons of Burlington.
