GRAHAM - Pete Overby (Herman H. Overby Jr.), 62, died on Monday, June 9, 2014, after a short battle with cancer.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born July 2, 1951, in Burlington, N.C., Pete lived most of his life in Alamance County. He attended Graham High School and joined the Marines in 1972. Pete was a brother to many of us and a friend to more! He found his calling for a period of time, working with the mentally and physically handicapped in Group Home environments, just as his mother, Delores Stinson, had done for more than 30 years. He was most happy when doing for others. Pete's favorite time of year was Christmas. He always decorated his mother's house each year at Thanksgiving to give her pleasure to share with her community. She loved her son unconditionally and completely.
Pete was the sixth of eight children born to Delores K. Stinson and Herman H. Overby Sr. Pete is survived by three children and three grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Donna Hall of Fairfax, Va. and Deborah O. Sinclair of Clayton, N.C. and 16 nieces and nephews.
Pete is predeceased by his parents, Delores King Stinson and Herman Hughes Overby Sr.; four brothers, Roy Newton Overby, John Larry Overby, Richard Kimbro and Jerry Overby; and a sister, Kay Kimbro Slaughter.
A memorial service will be held at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Graham on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Mark Mullins presiding and family and friends sharing memories in kind. The family will receive friends after the service in the Chapel of Rich & Thompson.
Memorials in Pete's honor may be made to the Hospice League of Alamance County, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC, 27215.
