MEBANE - Mr. Harold Edward South, 82, of Ashland Drive, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at his residence.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1931, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Harold H. and Mary Barrett South. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Japan.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed and loved by his family and friends. He was a collector of railroad memorabilia, tools, and model A cars and parts. He was known for his tinkering around especially when it came to woodworking, always taking time to make new wooden toys for his children to play with.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ingeborg Huber South, of the home; daughters, Ursula South Mincey, of Mebane and Gretchen South Barton and husband Bill, of Texas; son, Chad Anthony South and wife Trina, of Indiana; grandchildren, Owen and Ashli.
Services will be held at a later date.
