BURLINGTON - Constance Cates Isley of Alamance Health Care, died Monday, June 23, 2014, at 12:56 p.m.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Harold Isley Jr. of Burlington, and by her parents, Ralph Hurley Cates and Mary Elsie Porterfield Cates of Haw River. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Juanita Cates James, Betty Cates Workman, and Cleora Cates, all of Haw River.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Isley Squires and husband Mark of Saxapahaw and Marie Isley Inman and husband Wayne of Stem. She is also survived by grandchildren, Natalie Glancy and husband Aaron of Mebane, Jenna Richland and husband Jim of Elizabeth City, Jesse Inman and wife Cynthia of Mebane and Daniel Inman of Stem. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Ava Glancy, Adrianna Glancy, Isaac Richland, Noah Richland, Clara Richland, and Thomas Inman; one sister, Myra Ino Cates of Haw River.
She was a lifelong member of Haw River Methodist Church. Constance graduated valedictorian of Haw River High School in 1939. She attended Burlington Business College and graduated in 1942. She was employed by Granite Finishing in Haw River for many years as office secretary. She retired from Alamance-Burlington School System in 1997 as secretary of Glen Hope Elementary and then after closing, Eastlawn Elementary School.
She was a lifelong member of the Alamance Burlington Association of Educational Office Personnel, the American Business Women's Association Cardinal Chapter and Historical Society of Haw River. She was also president of the ABWA and the ABAEOP in past years. She was a former Girl Scout Leader, Choir member, Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher as well as Treasurer of Haw River Methodist Church.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Jeanne Neal with the family receiving friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
