ELON - Mr. Willie Hathaway, 87, of 3561 Altamahaw-Church Street, died at his residence Friday, July 18, 2014, at 6:30 a.m.

A native of Columbus County, N.C., he was the husband of Sandra M. Hathaway, who survives, and the son of Vance Hathaway and Lola Hathaway, both deceased.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was a retired truck driver and member of Grace Covenant Holiness Church, Reidsville, N.C.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two sons, Lucky Ray Hathaway of Yanceyville and Donald Edward Hathaway of Ossipee; stepdaughter, Vera Ellen Carter; stepsons, Toby Grant Overman, Timothy Robert Overman and Mickey Ray Cartrett; 11 grandchildren, Tammy, Kenneth, David, Lucky, Keith and Lynn Hathaway, Lola Hill, Tina Olsen, Virginia Dickerson, Brenda and Debbie Cartrett; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren; and a special nephew, Dennis Cox.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Chriscoe; two grandchildren, Donald Hathaway and Charles Hathaway; stepdaughter, Sandra Overman; and two sons, Billy Hathaway and Kenneth Hathaway.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Monday, July 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Wendell Edwards.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
