BURLINGTON - Deacon John W. "Johnny" Sellars Sr., 85, of 1723 Morgantown Road, died July 18, 2014, at White Oak Manor.

He was the husband of Mrs. Marie Blackwell Sellars, who survives, and the son of Mr. William Henry Sellars and Mrs. Vergie Smith Sellars, both deceased. Deacon Sellars was a member of Ebenezer UCC where he served the Lord and his church faithfully in many capacities. He was a retiree of the City of Burlington, a 1947 graduate of Jordan Sellars High School and a member of the Augustus Lodge 642 P.H.A.
Survivors other than his loving wife of the home include a son, John W. Sellars Jr. (Carolyn) of Raleigh; a daughter, Dianne Sellars Williamson (Gregery) of California; a brother, Lewis Sellars (Camille) of California; three sisters, Minor Ruth Sellars, Mary E. Sellars Haith (Louis) and Virgie Virginia Sellars, all of Burlington; two grandchildren, Lyndsye Sellars and John W. Sellars III (Lenise) and two great-grandchildren, Jaden and Jaxson Sellars.
Deacon Sellars was preceded in death by brothers, William H. Sellars Jr., Lucian Lee Sellars and Gordon Smith Sellars Sr.
Public viewing will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Sharpe Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Ebenezer UCC. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday, and at other times at the home. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
