Erma Boswell Pinkston, 90, passed away at The Village at Brookwood, on July 21, 2014. She was born to Lorenzo and Myrtle Chandler Boswell in Caswell County on Dec. 9, 1923.
Life on the farm involved hard work, family, friends, and blessings. She graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School and earned a secretarial certificate from Averett College in 1942. She worked for 12 years for Jefferson Standard in Greensboro, very proud of her time there. Life in Greensboro included living in boarding houses and apartments, great friends, many dances with the guys at the Army Depot, and meeting her husband, L. Julius Pinkston.
Erma and Julius married in 1955 and lived in Charlotte and Cheraw, S.C., raising their three children. Later they lived in Greenville, S.C., Charlotte, and eventually the Boswell family farm in Caswell County. She supported school activities, and enjoyed her bridge clubs and J.P. Stevens social events. Erma moved to The Village at Brookwood in Burlington in 2006, four years after Julius's death. They enjoyed 34 great years at Ocean Isle Beach, their second home and favorite place to be.
Erma is survived by her children, Pam Carlson and husband, Dirk, Boise, Idaho; Blain Pinkston, Burlington; Julie Watkins, Lake Wylie, S.C.; brother, Gene Boswell, Graham; brother-in-law, Charlie Pyles, Burlington; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Louise Hooper, Helen Foster, Irene Ingold, and Ann Pyles.
Memorials may be made to Union Ridge Church or Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
A graveside service will be held at Union Ridge Church, 115 Altamahaw-Union Ridge Road on Tuesday, July 29, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Dan Ficklin and the Rev. James Rosser officiating, followed by a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall. Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
