GIBSONVILLE - Mr. Fred Curry Ridge Sr., 80, of 5915 NC 61 North, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Guilford County, Curry was the husband of Frances Hawkins Ridge, who survives, and the son of the late Alfred Davis Ridge and the late Lottie Miles Ridge.
Curry retired as County Maintenance Supervisor at Camp Burton in McLeansville after working 37 years with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
He was a founding member of Fire District 28 in the Frieden's Community and served as past Fire Chief, a member of the Board of Directors and was currently serving as Fire District Commissioner for District 28.
Curry was a member of Frieden's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was an avid Bluegrass musician and is survived by his extended Bluegrass family.
In addition to his wife, Frances, of the home, Curry is survived by his daughter, Donna Ridge Ingle (Robert), of Graham; two sons, Johnny Ridge (Cindy) of Mebane and Fred "Freddie" Curry Ridge Jr., of Gibsonville; six grandchildren, Marshall Ingle, Laura Ridge, Will Ridge, Kim Ward (Richard), Dana Ridge and Dustin Ridge; seven great-grandchildren, Kendall Sykes, Caden Sykes, Lee Ingle, Scarlet Ingle, Zoey Ward, Finn Ward and Baker Ridge; and a special cousin, Sam Miles of Gibsonville.
In addition to his parents, Curry was preceded in death by three great-grandchildren, Zade Ridge-Poulos, Jade Hawks and Dillion Ridge.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, July 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington. Officiating will be the Rev. Bill Zima and the Rev. Jeff Smith. Burial will be in Freiden's Evangelical Lutheran Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 24, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington. At other times they will be at the residence.
