GRAHAM - Mrs. Thelma C. Scott, 86, of 349 Southern High School Road, Lot 20, died at the Hospice Home on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at 7:55 a.m. following a brief illness.

A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late William Archie Scott and the daughter of Lonzi Johnson Clayton and Lula Dela Laws Clayton, both deceased. She was a retired textile worker at Suntex Yarns in Efland and also worked as an instructor at Universal Textiles. Thelma loved her church and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Ladies' Sunday School Class and the Caleb Club. She loved working in her flower garden and helping her neighbors.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda S. Atkins of Burlington; two grandchildren, William Jeffrey Squires and wife Becky of Mebane and Samuel Russell King of Burlington; five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Katherine, Crystal, Jeffrey and Jordan; and a brother, John "Buck" Clayton and wife Joyce of Efland. She was loved by several stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pela Jean Scott; grandson, Daniel B. Squires; two sisters, Elvaleen Warren and Nonie Faye Clayton; and brother, Odell Clayton.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. by Pastor David Jackson and Pastor Scott London with the family receiving friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service and at other times at the residence, 349 Southern High School Road, Lot 20, Graham. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to Bethel Baptist Church, 238 Dixon Road, Graham, NC 27253.
