EFLAND - Mr. Billy Earl "Bill" Tate, 82, of 8508 Harmony Church Rd., Efland, NC, passed away on Friday August 1, 2014 at his residence with his loving family by his side.
He was the son of the late Robert Henry and Mattie Workman Tate. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. He was a member of Mt. Zion Christian Church and he also served in the US Army. He was known for being a wonderful tobacco farmer as well as an avid craftsman always building wood projects, whether it be cabinets, furniture or whatever was needed, he was always there to help. Bill also had a great sense of humor and always had a smile on his face.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joyce Fields Tate, of the home; daughter, Teresa Lynn Hartsfield Wright and husband Randy, of FL; son, Jeffrey Earl Tate and wife Teresa, of Efland; grandchildren, Chris Tate and wife Stacie, Brittany Tate and friend Brandon H., Brandon Tate and friend Charlyn, John and Cheryl Hartsfield; great grandchild, Taylor Hartsfield and soon to be great grandchild, Aubree Grace Tate; sisters, Lillian T. Oakley, Hazel Hargis, Patsy Jolly and husband Allison, and Frankie T. Moore; brother, Hurley Tate and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Lettie T. Allison, Mary Belle Poole, Annie Laurie Bowman, and Nellie T. Gentry; brothers, Hal, Buck, and Hermon Tate.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday August 4, 2014 at the Mt. Zion Christian Church with the Rev. Rick Webster officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Sunday August 3, 2014 at the McClure Funeral Home in Mebane, and other times at the residence of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care center of Alamance/Caswell at 918 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27217 or to the Mt. Zion Christian Church at 3210 Mount Zion Church Rd, Mebane, NC 27302.
