Ronald Ray Stephens, 73, of Burlington, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014, at Alamance Regional Medical Center, after a long battle with cancer. He was raised by the late Robert Bryarly and Mary Hicks Stephens in Caswell County.
For more than 40 years, Ronald was a successful owner of multiple convenience stores throughout Alamance and surrounding counties. He was an avid golfer, playing with a senior group at Caswell Pines and later at various courses in the area. He had a great love and concern for his grandchildren: Finley and Ramsay Stephens of Vinton, Va.; Chase Buffington of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; Joshua Ingle of Destin Beach, Fla.; Stephen Ingle (Katie), Jake Ingle, Caleb Ingle, Hannah Ingle, and Hailey Ingle of Burlington.
He is survived by his wife of the home, Mary Ida Sutton Stephens; three children: Michael Dennis Stephens of Burlington, Kimberley Dawn Stephens of Burlington, and Barry Thomas Stephens (Deanna) of Vinton, Virginia; three step-children: Kim Ingle (Angela), Colan Ingle (Debra) of Burlington, and Robin Buffington (Len) of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; and half-brother, Stephen Hunley (Marla) of Burlington. Siblings are two brothers: C.J. Stephens (Sylvia deceased) of Bahama, and Thomas Edward Stephens (Vera) of Mebane. Sisters are Lois Clayton, of Roxboro, and Dale Wooten, of Durham.
Deceased siblings are Robert Herman Stephens, Virginia Harris Williams, Earl Stephens, Curtis Stephens, twins Pauline Stephens Hunley and Irene Whitfield, and infant Emma Stephens.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Rich and Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday (August 18, 2014) at Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Pegg officiating. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
His future mailing address will be Heaven.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to workers from Hospice, along with Teresa, Ruby, Rusty, Angie, Bonnie, and Kim.
