BURLINGTON - Mrs. Opal Taylor Smith, 94, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Friday, August 22, 2014, at 7:27 a.m.
A native of Watauga County, she was the wife of the late James Monroe Smith and the daughter of Willie Annison Taylor and Stella Lisa Aldridge Taylor, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a charter member of the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis S. Smith and husband Allen of Graham and Donna S. McKenzie and husband Dennis of Chester, S.C.; son, Jimmy Smith of Haw River; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Levirn Shoffner of Graham; and two brothers, Creed Taylor and Denver Taylor, both of Boone.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers.
A graveside service will be conducted at Pine Hill Cemetery on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 4 p.m. by the Rev. Tim Robinson.
Memorials may be made to the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 2250 Saddle Club Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, 2502 South NC 119, Mebane, NC 27302.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields for their loving care and kindness given to Opal.
