BURLINGTON - On Aug. 24, 2014, after a brief illness, Alfred Leroy Pickard finished his journey of life and happily began his eternal fishing trip with The Lord.

Born May 29, 1958, Al was a native of Alamance County. He enjoyed sharing the history of his home region and was known for his tall tales. He spent most of his life mastering the trade of brick masonry before spending the last seven years doing maintenance on the rental houses of his beloved Sharpe family.
Al was a loved son, father, "Grandeddy," fishing buddy and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Connie Pickard.
He is survived by his daughters Nicole Pickard of Graham, Shannon Cobb of Burlington, Lacie Layne of Browns Summit; a son Cody Pickard of Burlington; sisters Thelma Byrd of Burlington and Jan Herring of Fayetteville; brothers Marvin "Buddy" Pickard of Reidsville and Wesley Pickard of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; one niece; four nephews; Donna Sharpe and his trusty dog, Sally. He is also survived and cherished by a large family of loved ones, including anyone who had the honor of ever calling him by the name "Grandeddy".
A memorial service will be held at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham at 3 p.m. on Wednesday Aug. 27, 2014, with the Rev. Brian Biggers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of Jerry and Tonita' Pitts at 1905 Shirley Drive, Burlington. The family invites everyone to the Pitts residence immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance/Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road. Burlington, N.C. 27215.
