BURLINGTON, N.C. - Mary Nell Farthing Vines, age 82, of Collinwood Drive went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Blakey Hall. She was a native of Watauga County and the wife of 58 years to Thomas Brown "Brownie" Vines who survives.
Mary Nell was an elementary school teacher for many years, retiring as the director of Exceptional Children for the Burlington City School System. She was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and the church organist for over 22 years. Mary Nell was a member of the Seekers Sunday school class and a member of the church choir. She graduated from ASU and UNCG with degrees in Education and was a member of the ADK Sorority. Mary Nell lived out her Christian faith in every area of her life and she was a loving and devoted wife and mother.
Survivors include her husband, Brownie Vines, of the home; daughter, Jean Vines of Burlington; and a sister, Carrie Lou Stump of Bristol, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Clara Greene Farthing; sister, Irene Farthing; and a brother, Harold Farthing.
A service to celebrate her life will be conducted on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Grove Park Baptist Church by the Rev. Bill Vickrey, the Rev. Rodger Roach and the Rev. Paul Traywick and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home.
