BURLINGTON - Mr. Robert N. "Bob" Marley, 88, of Burlington died at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell on Thursday, January 6, 2011.
A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of Ruth C. Marley, who survives and the late Rachel Phillips Marley and the son of William B. Marley and Annie Beaver Marley, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. Bob was a retired truck driver for the Transportation Division of Burlington Industries with 46 years of service. He attended the Graham Wesleyan Church.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two sons, Ken R. Marley of Gibsonville and Fred T. Marley and wife Lindy of Greensboro; one stepson, Ray Cartner and wife Judy of Dothan, Ala.; four grandchildren, Robin Putnam and husband Mike, Richard Blake Marley, Amy Chandler and husband Page and Robert Ross Marley and wife Chris; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Wayne Byrd and the Rev. Steve Saunders. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Sunday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence.
