GRAHAM - Lula "Lou" Lewis Taylor, age 93, passed peacefully at Golden Living Center on Nov. 11, 2012.
A memorial gathering and service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 at Lawndale Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Interment will be at Ramah Baptist Church cemetery in McCall Creek, Mississippi.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Beverly Taylor of Graham; sons, Bob (Yvonne) Taylor of Palm Harbor, Fla., Brian (Mary) of Largo, Fla., David Taylor and Doug (Jenny) Taylor of Greensboro; grandchildren, Michael, Rachel, Hannah, Abby and Jeremy Taylor.
Lou was born on Jan. 20, 1919 in Franklin County, Miss., to Cornelius and Julia Lewis. She is survived by her twin sister Luna Kelly of Cumming, Ga., and preceded in death by her husband William R. Taylor Sr. and brothers, Hollis, Leonard, Sam, Clarence, Clemon, Percy Lewis and four other sisters, Mamie Arnold, Ruth Hancock, Ora McCall and Leatha Porter.
She worked for many years for Southern Bell in Miss., Fla., and N.C. as a switchboard and long distance operator and also as a teacher and trainer.
She will be remembered as a devout Christian, a selfless volunteer, a hard worker, an impeccable dresser, a loyal Braves fan, a competitive point guard, a lover of music, a skilled "slot-whisperer," an enthusiastic card and Bingo player, a caring neighbor, an excellent cook, a proud American, and a loving, compassionate, supportive Wife, Mother, Mother-in-Law, Sister, Sister-in-Law, Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and Friend to all who were blessed with her company and smile. She was the essence of a true Southern Belle.
The family wishes to thank all of her health providers and especially the staff at Golden Living who made her feel so special and loved in her last days and weeks.
Special thanks go out to our sister Beverly for being her best friend, roommate and caregiver right up to her last moment in life. Mom truly cherished you for being so good to her through everything. We stand proud with you as Family.
Memorials may be made to Lawndale Baptist Church, Ramah Baptist Church or Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance – Caswell.
