BURLINGTON - Mr. Jack F. Holsonback Sr., 84, of Manchester Lane, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at 1:14 p.m. He was known to many young family and friends as "Papa Jack."

A native of Durham, he was the husband of Sylvia Tillery Holsonback, who survives, and the son of Paul Holsonback and Lilly Mae Roberts Holsonback, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from Western Electric and AT&T. Jack was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He was an avid Duke fan and enjoyed NASCAR racing.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include his daughter, Laura Holsonback Lynthacum and husband, Wayne, with whom he made his home; two sons, Jack F. "Jeff" Holsonback Jr. and wife, Ann, of Birmingham, Ala., and Richard Eric Holsonback and wife, Phyllis, of Burlington; sister, Jo Ann Latham and husband, H. Leonard, of Graham; six grandchildren, Kelly B. Teague, Tillery L. Holsonback, Daniel Blair Thompson, Carmen Vicenta Prieto, Joseph Prieto and Chris Prieto; five great-grandchildren, Abigail, Caroline, Riley, Jett and Gabby; and his loving dogs and best friends, Maggie, Lilly and Benjamin.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Holsonback and Calvin Holsonback, and four sisters, Mary Cook, Roberta Douglas, Edna Thompson and Nan Perreira.
The funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Lee Roy Pittard. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence.
