On Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at 7:08 a.m., Billy James Crawford went home to be with the Lord. He attended Florence Memorial Baptist Church where as served as a deacon for many years. His interests included fishing, bowling, photography, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Billy retired from Cone Mills, Granite Plant, where he worked for many years. Billy was a proud Korean War veteran. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann James Crawford of the home; daughter Shelia Joyce of Durham; son-in-law Dave Joyce of Elizabeth City, N.C.; son Kenneth Crawford and wife Anna of Mebane; grandchildren, Justin Whitfield and wife Shannon of Burlington, Jacob and Jessica Crawford of Graham, Jordan Crawford of Mebane, and Pvt. Joshua Crawford, U.S. Army stationed in Seoul, South Korea; and three great-grandchildren, Chandler, Presley, and Evan Whitfield, of Burlington.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday Feb. 16, 2013 at Florence Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, Feb. 15, 2013 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Florence Memorial Baptist Church, 915 Gibson Road, Mebane, N.C. and at other times at the residence of the family at 501 Mattress Factory Road, Mebane. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Jim Florence and the Rev. Carl Gibbs.
Isaiah 40:31 says, "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint"
