GRAHAM - Mr. Erie Adolphus Ward, 92, of Graham, died at the Hospice Home on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at 11:40 a.m.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Virginia Foust Ward, who survives, and the son of Floy M. Ward and Katie Whitfield Ward, both deceased. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he played baseball. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Force, serving during World War II. Erie retired from Western Electric on May 31, 1983 and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Graham.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a son, Mark Foust Ward Sr. and wife Zena of Haw River; sister, Doris Huff and husband Sam of Chapel Hill; and five grandchildren, Jessica, April, Tiffany, Mark Ward Jr. and Phillip Ward.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Herman Ward, Jasper Ward and Ira Ward; and two sisters, Juanita Caston and Beryl Lloyd.
The funeral service will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Graham on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Jim Wall. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence of the son, Mark Ward Sr., 2259 Brucewood Road, Haw River, N.C.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Hospice Home and his sisters-in-law, Margie Foust and Kay Foust for their love and care during Erie's illness.
