GRAHAM - Mr. Paul Kenneth Mitchell, 91, of Graham, NC went home peacefully to be with his Lord from his home on Saturday, March 23, 2013. Born February 25, 1922 in Alexander County, Illinois, he was the son of the late Alfred and Mamie Lingle Mitchell. His loving wife of 58 years, Mary Elizabeth Mitchell preceded him in death, passing April 13, 2005. Paul served in the United States Army during World War II, beginning November 2, 1942 and was honorably discharged January 7, 1946. His tour of duty took him to North Africa, India, Burma and China. Upon returning home Paul worked in the logging, mining and construction industries and farming.
Many family members survive to cherish his memory, including his daughters and their families, daughter Paula Mitchell Milano and husband Pete of Vienna, Va., granddaughter Sharon Milano Hanks of Winchester, Va., with great grandson Mitchell Hanks and great granddaughter Josie Hanks; granddaughter Robin Milano of the home in Graham, and grandson Raymond Milano of Fredericksburg, Va., with great grandson Christian Avila of Annandale, Va.
Also, daughter Pamela Mitchell Atkins and husband Walt of Graham, NC, with granddaughter Cristy Lynn Atkins Slawson and husband Thomas of Gresham, Ore., and Siberia, Russia along with great grandson Isaiah and great granddaughter Nadia.
He is also survived by his brother Bob Mitchell of Orleans, Ind., and his sister, Ruth Brachel of Midway, Ga. Paul was preceded in death by a sister, Francis Mitchell Vick.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 25, 2013 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the home of Pam and Walt Atkins, 414 Ridgecrest Dr. Graham, NC. A memorial service of worship and celebration of a life well lived will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2013 in the McClure Funeral Home Chapel, 1030 South Main St., Graham, NC. Minister Gerald Counts will officiate with burial to follow in the Graham Memorial Park.
The Missions Fund of Beacon Baptist Church is a ministry Paul enjoyed supporting faithfully for many years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Beacon Missions Fund, c/o Beacon Baptist Church, PO Box 159, Alamance, NC 27201. McClure Funeral Service of Graham is serving the family.
