William Longstreet Goforth, 81, of Albemarle, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at CMC Northeast in Concord, N.C.
His memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, Albemarle, with the Rev. Elizabeth Ayscue officiating. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. and also following the service at the church.
Born May 27, 1931 in Kings Mountain, N.C., he was the son of the late Rufus Hall Goforth and Georgia Barber Goforth. He was retired after 20 years with the N.C. State Highway Patrol and 15 years with the N.C. License and Theft Division. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Mr. Goforth was a 50-year member of First Presbyterian Church in Albemarle where he served as deacon, a Past Master and 50-year member of Albemarle Masonic Lodge # 703 A. F. & A. M., and a past president and member of the Stanly County Shrine Club.
He is survived by his wife Ruth, and children, Michael S. Goforth of Albemarle, Laura G. Tucker of Berryville, Va., and Brady Hall Goforth of Burlington, N.C.; a brother, Raymond Goforth of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Elaine Clack of Niceville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Melissa, Joshua, Jason, Kaitlyn, and Preston; six great-grandchildren, Honor, Nia, Jayden, Gresham, Emily, and Brooke.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Goforth.
