Randy Lee Cates, 68, of 3148 Bellemont-Mt. Hermon Road, Burlington, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at his home.
A native of Alamance County, Randy was the husband of Bobbie Cates, who survives, and the son of the late Walter Lee Cates and the late Mattie Elmer Rich Cates.
Randy was the retired owner and operator of Randy's Small Engine Repair. He was a member of Bellemont United Methodist Church, where he was a former member of the church choir and the Men's Quartet.
Randy loved fishing, NASCAR, gardening and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Bobbie, of the home, Randy is survived by three daughters, Dana Cates Boggs, of Burlington, Sherri Cates Thompson and her husband, Sammy, of Burlington and Kristina Cates Albright and her husband Kyle, of Mebane; stepdaughter, Barbie Rhew and her husband, D.J., of Graham, two stepsons, Ken Browning of Mebane and James L. Browning of Virginia; grandchildren, Eric Boggs, Graham Boggs, April Boggs, Jake Byrd, James Gregg, Mattie Albright and Austin Albright; stepgrandchildren, Lexie Rhew, Taylor Browning, Michael Stinson, Ginna Browning, Haley Browning and Kayla Browning; an aunt, Alzora Isley of Lexington and several cousins.
Randy will be missed very much by his beloved dog, Missy.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 21, 2013 from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. at Rich and Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington.
A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Rich and Thompson Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Farron Duncan.
The family will receive friends at the residence when not at the funeral home.
