Jack Sullivan, 67, of Burlington, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, after a yearlong battle with cancer. His daughter, Vicki, was at his side as Elvis sang "Amazing Grace." The family would like to thank Alamance Regional Cancer Center for their excellent care and the Hospice Home for helping Jack make his final transition to Heaven.
Jack was born at home in Asheville on March 16, 1946, to Ruby Elizabeth Briggs Sullivan and Willard Sullivan, both now deceased. He had four siblings, three of which preceded him in death: Wilma Jewel Geraghty, Robert Sullivan and Melba Dottie Terry. His sister, Chris Eichelberger, resides with her husband, Mike, in South Carolina.
Most of Jack's life was spent living with his family in N.C. He had fond memories of his U.S. travels that included living and surfing in La Jolla Beach, Calif. He was a veteran of the United States Army's 9th Division serving in Vietnam where he was awarded The Purple Heart.
Jack enjoyed his life long career as a mechanical engineer, designing many electrical switches and components that many of us use today. He later retired to care for the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Jenna Rose - "Grand Daddy's Little Princess"
He was a faithful follower of Christ and a member of St. Mark's Church in Burlington. He loved the Lord, Sunday services with Pastor Bob Disher, and sharing God's love with others. He was a kind and giving man, always ready to help others less fortunate. He always felt that "God always looked out for him and took care of his family." He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Doris June Sullivan (originally from Black Mountain, N.C.); and his daughters, Vicki Sullivan Davis, of Burlington; Wendy R. Mills, of Chapel Hill; and Stephanie Sullivan McFee, of Clayton. Vicki is married to Tommy Davis II and they have three children Trey, Trevor and Jenna Rose. Wendy is engaged to Steve Tart and has three boys, Kaleb and Ryan Stamey and Chris Tart. Ryan is engaged to Lindsey Robinson.
Memorial services will be held at St. Mark's Church on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at
3 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately after at the home of Tommy and Vicki Davis. 4054 Lauder Lane, Burlington, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to have donations made to St. Mark's Church for their various charitable ministries or to the Hospice Home.
