JAMESTOWN, N.C. - James E. Martin, 84, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at Wesley Long Hospital after a brief courageous battle with cancer.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel, 5926 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410. A private interment will be held in Alamance Memorial Park.
Jim was born Oct. 24, 1929, in Dickson, Tenn. to the late George E. Martin and Moselle Florence Martin. After attending Central High School in Nashville, he was a graduate of the School of Engineering at Vanderbilt University in the Class of 1951. After a long career with General Electric, during which time he was President and Managing Director of the start up tube plant in Singapore, he came to Greensboro with Gilbarco, from which he retired in 1995. Jim was involved in several activities and organizations. He served on the boards of The Eastern Music Festival and the Adult Center for Enrichment for many years. Commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1970, he was a founder of the Kentucky Colonels Club of North Carolina in 1986. Jim was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, George E. Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane Odom Martin; daughter, Amanda Martin Page (Allen); granddaughters, Mary Allison Page and Laura Anne Page; sister-in-law, Sally Martin; and several nieces and nephews.
