James Massey Obituary

MEBANE - James Massey, 86, passed away on August 21, 2015 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was a Legends NASCAR driver during the 1950s and '60s. James enjoyed racing, working on his race cars and spending time with his racing friends. He was the former owner of Pleasant Grove Esso and remained a mechanic after retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Peggy Culler Massey, daughter; Tammy Ray (Keith Berry) of Mebane, a grandson Victor Ray (Kaylee) of Mebane, two great grandchildren Hannah and Gavin Ray, brothers; John Massey of Georgia, Bernice Massey (Sue) of Burlington, Frank Massey (Mary) of Graham, David Massey of Mebane, sisters; Bea Cook of Haw River, Lou Blair of Mebane, Alice Allen of Mebane, Becky Mitchell of Haw River and Jean Massey of Graham.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roxie Eastwood and Bratcher Massey, brothers; Melvin Massey and Robert Massey.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday August 25, 2015 from 5-7 at McClure Funeral and Cremation Service in Mebane.

I'm sorry to hear about Jim. I remember vividly going to watch him race when I was just a kid. My dad was James "Pete" Taylor, Jim's first cousin. I haven't talked with any of Uncle Bratcher's folks in a long time.
