Ira Joseph Schneider
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Ira Joseph Schneider on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Chad Partain officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Marksville under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.
Mr. Schneider, age 79, of Marksville passed away at his residence on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. He was a graduate of LSU, receiving an engineering degree, and a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was a US Air Force veteran. He was a diverse businessman, most known for his ownership of the Sears Roebuck Catalog Store in Marksville. He spoke fluid Cajun French, which helped him to communicate and serve a diverse customer base throughout Avoyelles Parish. Throughout his career he expanded into real estate investments and developments. He was also on the Board of Directors for the Cenla Bank and Cottonport Bank. He was active at St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise C. Schneider: two sons, Ira David Scneider and John Edgar Schneider and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Sparks Schneider.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. Mark Schneider of Memphis, TN, Frank Schneider of London, England and Karl F. Schneider of Alexandria ; two daughters, Christine Schneider of Santa Cruz, CA and Claire Schneider of Middleton, NJ and fifteen grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. with a Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 9 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. www.melanconfunerals.com
