Calvin Hayes, Jr., age 82, from Effie, LA departed for his heavenly journey on Thursday, January 16, 2014.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Calvin Hayes, Jr will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Pineville, with Reverend Gary Richerson and Deacon L. G. Deloach officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Church Mausoleum, Effie, LA.
The family asks that visitation be observed Friday at Hixson Brothers, Pineville from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Calvin was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He was a United States Air Force
veteran, serving his country for 22 years including a tour in Viet Nam. He served as a medical technologist in numerous military and civilian hospitals before retiring with the rank of Tech Sergeant. Following his Air Force career, Calvin and Nell built Cal's Drive-In, Effie, LA, where he cooked and engaged others in conversation for 7 years before starting his career in the Louisiana State Department of Agriculture and Forestry. He retired from the state after 11 years. He had many years of meeting and retaining life-long friends anywhere he went. Calvin loved to fish, hunt, cook, help people with their cattle, play basketball, and sing a melody or two.
Calvin is preceded in death by his parents Calvin (Sr.) and Parlee Hayes and two brothers, Aaron and Oren Hayes.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Edith Nell Woodson Hayes; two daughters Debra Migues (Mike) and Denise Crain (Bruce); one son, Kenneth Hayes; Grandchildren, Matthew Migues, Amanda Migues Jackson (Wallace), Jeremy Richerson (Laura), and Joshua Richerson (Cori); Step-grandchildren BJ Crain (Nikki) and Matt Crain; Great-grandchildren Taylor, Wallace IV, Josiah, and Andrew Jackson; and Step-great-grandchild, Addison Crain. Calvin is also survived by his siblings, Verna Lea Wilson (J.C.), Jack Hayes, Gilda Thorne (Maurice), and Winston Hayes along with many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Crain, Steve Hargis, Matthew and Mike Migues, Jeremy and Joshua Richerson. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Lester, Dr. Henry Moreau, and Rayburn Smith.
