Capt. Carl Everett "Early" Wynn, Jr., USN Ret.
Memorial Services for Capt. Carl Everett "Early" Wynn, Jr. USN Retired, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday March 26, 2013, at Grace Presbyterian Church with Dr. R.B. Vincent officiating. Inurnment will follow in Alexandria Memorial Gardens Columbarium under the direction of John Kramer & Son.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 25 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Kramer Funeral Home in Alexandria, and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church.
Carl E. Wynn, Jr., age 82, of Alexandria, passed away March 21, 2013 at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Dorothy S. "Dot" Wynn. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Carl E. Wynn, Sr. and Lula Mae M. Wynn, as well as his brother William Donald Wynn, and sisters Margaret Wynn Whitson and Dorothy Wynn Hoffman.
Capt. Wynn's naval career spanned over 27 years. He was a fighter pilot of the F-4 Phantom and Commanding Officer of the VF-96 Fighting Falcons. He flew combat missions during the Vietnam War
and was in the first class to go through the "Top Gun" training program for fighter pilots in Miramar, California. He also served as Executive Officer on the USS John F. Kennedy Aircraft Carrier and later was Commanding Officer of the USS Ashtabula.
After retiring from the Navy, he and his wife settled in Alexandria, Louisiana, where they acquired the Avis Rent A Car franchise. They eventually expanded their Avis franchise to include an additional location in Gulfport, Mississippi. Later they added the Budget Rent a Car franchises to both locations.
Those left to cherish his memory include his three children Carl E. Wynn, III of Diamondhead, Mississippi; Derek Lee Wynn and wife Linda of Pass Christian, Mississippi; and Leigh Ann (Wynn) Kirsch and husband Kendall of Alexandria; five grandchildren Derek Lee Wynn, II, Laci Lee Wynn, Robin Marie Wynn, Lawson Everett Kirsch, and Cameron Scott Kirsch; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
