Charles Larry Carbo, Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Charles Larry Carbo, Sr. will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church with Rev. Dan O'Connor and Rev. Charles Ray officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, and again from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Charles Larry Carbo, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Alexandria on Sunday, September 8, 2013, surrounded by his family and many friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Emily Briggs Carbo, his son Stephen Gerard Carbo, and brothers B. Joseph Carbo, Jr. and Bert L. Carbo.
Larry was born December 6, 1927 in Alexandria to B. Joseph Carbo Sr. and Clara Landry Carbo. Larry was a graduate of Menard Central High School and a United States Navy
veteran. He retired in 1988 after a 40 year career working with and ultimately managing the family business, Carbo Foundry and Machine Company.
Larry was a 50-year member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, and upon his retirement enjoyed attending mass almost daily, gardening, listening to his vast collection of audio books and visiting with friends and family. He was a faithful fan of LSU baseball and football, and rarely missed listening to any games. Larry will be most remembered for his kind, generous spirit, and his devout faith and optimism.
Larry is survived by four children, Charles Larry Carbo, Jr. and his wife Carrie, of Shreveport, Susan Carbo Fontenot and husband, Joel of Covington, La., Jeffrey Carbo and wife, Wendy of Alexandria, and Allison Carbo Young and husband, Richard of Alexandria. Larry is also survived by one sister, Ann Carbo Craft of Alexandria, as well as 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Charles Larry Carbo III, Michael Carbo, Richard Carbo, Christopher Elliott, Stephen Ross, and John Hesni III. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Antee, Fr. Ker Texada, Sam Williams, Jr., Sherman Cook, Chandler Young, Nicholas Young, Noah Young, William Carbo and Ben Hesni.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the many caregivers over Larry's extended illness including Compassionate Care Hospice and VA Home Health.
