A memorial service for Donald E. Sampson will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2012 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Thacker officiating.

Don passed away on Friday, November 23 following a lengthy illness.

Don was born in Decatur, Texas, July 18, 1936 to Rev. H. L. Sampson and Martha Hawthorne Sampson and grew up in East Texas and in north Louisiana. Don graduated from Louisiana College with a degree in Commercial Art and after spending two years in the U. S. Army became staff artist for Louisiana Baptist Convention until 1997. In retirement Don enjoyed a continued interest in art, with a particular emphasis on sculpture.

Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ida Colvin Sampson; two sons, Donald Jeffrey and wife Trish, of Alexandria, and Joel David and wife Whitney, of Quincy, Florida. Don thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren, Catherine, Taylor, Erin and Matthew. Don is also survived by one brother, Dan J Sampson and wife Gretchen, of Dallas, Texas and three nieces: Jana Briggs, Ashley Turner, Anna Clark.

Visitation will be held at the church from one p.m. until the service at two.
