Dorothy Freeman McGinnis

Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Dorothy Freeman McGinnis will be held at 11:00am Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Zion Hill Family Church with the Rev. Dr. Joshua Dara, Sr. officiating. Interment will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Progressive Funeral Home.

Mrs. McGinnis, 85, transitioned from this life on Sunday, December 16, 2012, in Christus Grace Home of Alexandria.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Davidson McGinnis, parents, Rev. Caleb Freeman & Eva Bacon Calvin, step-father, Grant Calvin, step-mother, Celia L. Norwood Freeman, son, Robert Austin, Jr., and brother, Rev. Frank L. Freeman.

She was a faithful member of the Zion Hill Family Church where she served as a deaconess. She was also known throughout Central Louisiana for her "singing" and "playing the piano."

Left to cherish her memories are: six daughters, Patricia (Robert, Jr.) Allen of Houston,Texas, Rose (Alphonso) Bridges, Shirley C. Williams, Salley M. Berry, Carla M. Clark, and Barbara S. Howard, all of Alexandria; fourteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 8:30am until time of services on Saturday at Zion Hill Family Church.
