Herman L. Kelley, Jr.
Herman L. Kelley, Jr. formerly of Bunkie, Louisiana, died Friday, April 19, 2013 at Colfax Reunion Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Colfax, at the age of 82.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herman L. "Pop" Kelley, Sr. and Lizzie Catherine Hollis Kelley and one son Clay D. Kelley, formerly of Bunkie.
Mr. Kelley is survived by one sister, Barbara K. Perkins of Tyler, Texas; two sons, Kirk A. Kelley of Knoxville, Tennessee and Keith P. Kelley of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and two grandchildren.
He graduated from Bunkie High School in 1948 then enlisted with the U. S. Air Force in 1951. He was stationed at Clark Air Base on Luzon Island in the Philippines and was honorably discharged in 1955 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He returned to Bunkie and was hired as a teller at the newly-formed Bunkie Bank & Trust Company. He retired in 1985 as Executive Vice President and Cashier. Mr. Kelley was a Notary Public and was a former member of the Louisiana Bankers Association and the American Institute of Banking. He was also active in numerous civic organizations including the Bunkie Jaycees, the Bunkie Rotary Club
, the Knights of Columbus and was a supporter of St. Anthony Catholic Church and School and St. Joseph High School in Plaucheville.
He loved life and was known for his warm and charming personality. He cared deeply for all people and loved his family and his community.
The family extends special thanks to the staff and management of Colfax Reunion Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the care, dignity and support they provided him during the later years of his life. Special personal thanks and gratitude are especially extended to Herbert and Alice Goudeau and Genevieve Kelley who provided their unselfish love, courage and support during his time of need.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home in Bunkie. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church Internment in Pythian Cemetery.
