Houston R. Burns
Funeral services for Houston R. Burns, 65, of Leesville, Louisiana will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the First United Pentecostal Church in Leesville with Rev. Bud Davis, Rev. Mark Christian and Rev. M. C. Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery in Anacoco; services are under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 5th from 2 pm - 9 pm, then Saturday, July 6th, from 8 am until service time in the church.
Houston, the son of David and Pearlie Burns, was born July 29, 1947, in Pineville, LA. He passed away Wednesday, July 3rd, at the Rapides Regional Hospital in Alexandria.
Houston was a true man of integrity; he was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather and Darlene's "Best Friend". He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends running Walker Hounds. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ludie, Dick, Louise, William, Wilamae, Franklin Delano, Gladys, Lawrence and Gracie.
He served in the US Army as a SGT in Vietnam. In 1999 he retired from the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office after 17 years. After his retirement from VPSO he worked as an investigator for the Louisiana State Penitentiary, and then later worked as an International Policeman in Kosovo. Upon his return from Kosovo, he worked with FEMA in Quality Control. In 2008 he returned back to the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office where he worked as a part-time deputy until his passing.
Houston is survived by his wife of 13 years, Darlene Burns of Leesville; sons, Boyd Ray Burns of Leesville, Tully and Jodi Burns of Simpson and Jason Burns of Leesville; daughters, Zanita Burns Phillips and husband Ricky of Bossier City, and Benita Burns of Dallas, Texas; step-daughter Hope Kuhlow of Anacoco; brother, Huey Burns of Mamou; sister Faye and husband Harry Parham of Virginia; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
