Dr. Jack Thompson Cappel, Jr. MD
Dr. Jack Thompson Cappel, Jr. MD, age 84, died September 2, 2013. He was born September 6, 1928 to Dr. Jack Cappel Sr. and Mrs. Alma Cortrecht Cappel and was a life long resident of Alexandria. He graduated from Bolton High School in 1945, Centenary College in 1949, and Tulane
University Medical School in 1953.
After a year of internship, he served two years as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Hospital for the European Command in London England from 1955 - 1957. There he met his future wife, First Lt. Jacqueline Feil, RN., of Nash, Oklahoma.
They were married in 1957. Returning to Louisiana, he completed his surgical training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He opened his office in 1960 in Alexandria and practiced surgery for 40 years. He was a member of numerous medical societies. In 1982 he was elected President of the Louisiana Medical Society. He had a great love and admiration of the outdoors and wildlife. He was always working adamantly and vigorously to make the outdoors better for future generations. As active as he was in wildlife conservation, he was appointed to the La. Wildlife and Fisheries Commission by the Governor and served as its chairman in 1982. As an ardent fisherman, he persued his hobby throughout North, Central and South America.
Dr. Jack was preceeded in death by his parents Dr. Jack Cappel Sr. and Clara Alma Cortrecht, and sister Martha Cappel.
He is survived by his wife Jacqueline of 56 years, sister Eloise (Weesie) Hollis and her husband Dr. Richard Hollis of Amory MS, also sons Scott Cappel and wife Julie of Sterling Heights MI, Mark Cappel of Pineville LA, and daughters Lisa and her husband Yalcin Hatipoglu of New Orleans, LA, and Kristin and her husband Glenn LaMonica of Baton Rouge, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He will forever be remembered for kindness and generosity, compassion and gentleness. He was a man that never had a negative thought or action. He loved his wife and children unconditionally. He loved his fellow man as much as anyone could.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home on Jackson Street, Alexandria, LA on Thursday, September 5, 2013.
