Kathleen Baker

Kathleen Baker passed away on New Year's Eve, one minute before midnight. Kathleen was born in Alexandria, Louisiana and raised in Pineville.

She was preceded in death by her parents the late Frances Frost and Carl Judson Baker and an older brother, Carl Frost Baker.

She is survived by her older sister, Carlene B. Dempsey (Tom) and her twin, Irene B. Richard (Lee). Kathleen was the beloved aunt of Toby Dempsey (Pam), Ashley Dempsey, and Meghan D. Crosby (Lee) and the doting great aunt of Dylan Thomas, Logan Frances, and Quinn Thomas Dempsey.

Kathleen was a graduate of Pineville High School, attended Louisiana Tech, and graduated from Northeast Louisiana State University in Monroe, Louisiana. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

Kathleen taught for 30 years in St. Bernard Parish at Carolyn Park and Arabi Park schools. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and the St. Bernard Parish Teacher's Association. She was honored twice as an outstanding teacher in the United States. Quickly becoming bored upon retirement, she went to work at Kehoe-France School in Metairie.

As a world traveler with the YATS, a group of colleagues and friends, she visited every continent on earth except Australia and Antarctica. One of her favorite past times was going to lunch or dinner, which she did frequently over the past 30 years with friends from Arabi Park Middle School and with the YLDC from Kehoe-France since Katrina. Kathleen will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends and co-workers along with former students who are left behind to cherish her memory. She brought rays of sunshine into the lives of those she touched. Thomas Campbell said, "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die."

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. beginning at 12:00 Noon with services to begin at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will be private.
