Kelly Joseph Shelfo
Services for Kelly Joseph Shelfo will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son, with Rev. Chad Partain officiating. Interment will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of John Kramer & Son.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 and again at 8:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m Tuesday at the funeral home.
Kelly Joseph Shelfo, 88, of Alexandria passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Hill Top Nursing Home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clorine; his parents and 4 brothers.
Kelly proudly served during World War II
as an Army Medical Officer, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and earned a Purple Heart
during his service to his country. Kelly and his wife, Clorine, loved to travel and enjoyed many sites around the country. These sites included Canada, Colorado and Alaska which held a special love for them. Before taking any trip, Kelly would play "On the road again." Kelly was known to enjoy spaghetti each Sunday and enjoyed adding fried chicken to his favorite dish. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and entering contests. Kelly was loved by his family, grandchildren and friends. Kelly will always be "Pawpaw" to his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his 4 children, Carolyn Robicheaux, of Alexandria, Deborah Shelfo Jennings and her husband Mike, of Fisk, Mo., James Shelfo and his wife Francine, of Alexandria, La, and Michael Shelfo and his wife Karen, of Cotile Lake, La; 1 brother, Joseph Shelfo and his wife Rosemary, of Alexandria, La.; 6 grandchildren, Cheryl Jennings Bullock, Brandon Robicheaux, Karen Jennings Waggoner, Leann Shelfo Peek, Kalen Shelfo and Deane Shelfo; 3 great-grandchildren, Makenna Waggoner, Peyton Waggoner and Cameron Bullock along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be: Deane Shelfo, Kalen Shelfo, Brandon Robicheaux, Darrell Tarver, Danny Burns, Willie Johnson.
The family would like to thank the special nurses at Hill Top and special nurses at Hospice Care.
In lieu of flowers, the Shelfo family asks donations sent to a disabled Veterans foundation.
