Funeral services for Lillian Lavern Lavespere Long will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 in the chapel of Hixson Brothers in Alexandria with Reverend Joe Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Lillian Lavern Lavespere Long, 79, died quietly in her sleep on March 12, 2014, in Colfax, Louisiana.

Born Feb. 15, 1935 in Colfax, Lavern was a beautiful lady with a gentle spirit who always had a smile and hug for everyone. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and her family was the center of her life.

She spent most of her working days caring for disabled children and as an activity director for a number of senior citizen homes.

She was president of Patient Activity Coordinators in Region IV of Louisiana while she worked at Camellia Garden Nursing Home in Pineville. She loved her job so much, she chose to marry David Long in one of the nursing homes where she worked. She had several bridesmaid, all residents, and had her reception at the center. It was one of her best parties.

She leaves behind her much-loved husband; one sister, Jennie Hickman; three children, Barry and Curtis Lavespere and Kathy Gilbert; five grandchildren, Amy Knight, Brandi Lavespere, Clifford Lamb and Emily and Ethan Gilbert; one step grandchild, two great grandchildren and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ora Prothro, two brothers,

Albert and William Prothro, and sons Clifford and Michael Lavespere.
