Nettie Rachal Maillet Jeansonne
Services for Nettie R. Jeansonne will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville with Deacon Gary Schupbach officiating. Visitation will be observed from 8:00 a.m.until time of service. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery #1, in Marksville. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.
"Ms. Nettie" 100, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Valley View Nursing Home surrounded by family. Nettie, daughter of Andrew Prospere and Amy (Moreau) Rachal was born April 25, 1913 in Moreauville, La. She graduated Valedictorian at Moreauville High School in 1930 and was a graduate of the Normal College (NSU) in Natchtoches, LA. She met and married Gaston Paul Maillet while both were teaching school in Plaucheville in 1933.
A devoted and loving Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends, especially her beloved card playing friends. She enjoyed the many years of teaching young children in Avoyelles Parish and especially being one of the first white teachers
at Bethune Elementary School. She later taught school at Marksville Elementary for many years until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaston P. Maillet, parents Andrew P. and Amy Rachal, sisters Lilly Mae Yarno Armand , Eileen Chatelain, brothers Wallace Rachal, Odell Rachal, Andrew Rachal Jr., and Luddie Rachal, and husband J.W. "T-Jack Jeansonne.
She leaves a legacy of love and compassion through her five children, Fae Cliff (Fred), Rae Brewer, John Maillet,(Susan), Richard Maillet(Doris) and Katherine "Sugar" Smith, Brothers, Oscar Rachal and Owen Rachal, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great- grandchild.
