Oscar "Ike" Kastanek
Services celebrating the life of Oscar "Ike" Kastanek will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville, with Pastor Blaine Ussery officiating. Burial will follow at the Czech Cemetery, Kolin.
The family asks that visitation be observed Monday, January 14, 2013, at Hixson Brothers, Pineville, from 5:00 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Mr. Kastanek, 76, of Kolin passed from life on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Rapides Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Kastanek was a veteran of the Louisiana Army National Guard, serving during the time of the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of the Holiday Village Volunteer Fire Department and a founding member and the first Chief of the Kolin-Ruby Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Kastanek established the Ruby Wise ballpark and was a commissioner for the Ward 11 youth programs. He operated the ballpark and coached girls' softball for many years. Mr. Kastanek worked most of his life in the retail grocery and merchandise business. He loved farming and raising cattle and had become remarkably skilled at repairing and restoring antique furniture.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Joseph and Martha Suchy Kastanek; and his sisters, Mildred Melichar and Edna Tuma.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Darlene Jamieson Kastanek; daughters, Krista Kastanek, Karen Allen and husband Randy, and Keli Kastanek; son, Kerry Kastanek; grandchildren, Jennifer Brister, Cody Allen, Christopher Barr, Dustin Brister, Bailey Allen, and Amber Barr.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Cody Allen, Christopher Barr, Dustin Brister, Daniel Melder, Randy Allen, and James Layssard. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Melichar, Eddie Tuma, and Ricky Melder.
Memorials may be made to the Kolin Czech (National) Cemetery, Kolin, Louisiana.
