Funeral services for Oscar Strother, Jr. will be held at 10 am, Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in the Elizabeth Baptist Church with Brother Danny Perry officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Navy. Committal services will follow in the Hampton Memorial Cemetery of Elizabeth under the guidance of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Oscar, 91, a life-long resident of Elizabeth, went home to meet his Savoir Saturday, November 9, 2013 in his residence surrounded by his family. He was born April 4, 1922 in Elizabeth to the union of Oscar Strother, Sr. and Ellie Johnson Strother. He was a Christian and active member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, where he was also a Deacon, Choir Member and Sunday School Teacher. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving honorably for 6 years during World War II where he was an aircraft/helicopter mechanic and inspector. He was a retired Enforcement Officer with the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, where he served for 26 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ellie J. Strother, Sr.; two brothers, O. D. Strother and Perry W. Strother; and two sisters, Elizabeth Watson and Vera Godsey.

He leaves behind his loving family to cherish his memory, wife of 63 years, Evelyn Cole Strother of Elizabeth; two sons, Gregory Strother of Alexandria and Gary Strother of Mathiston, Mississippi; two daughters, Jetta Vidrine of Elizabeth and Gretta Gunter of Lecompte; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Pallbearers to serve will be Blaine Strother, Josh Vidrine, Kerry Strother, Gabriel Gunter, Damon Johnson, and Jesse Vidrine. Honorary pallbearer to serve will be Jonathan Gunter.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Brighton Bridges Hospice.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from until 5 pm and 10 pm then on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 8 am until service time in the church at 10 am.
