Robert R. Carper

Robert R. Carper died February 25, 2013, at Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville. He was born on April 5, 1928, to Robert Earl and Ailene Hall Carper.

After Roanoke College and graduating from Southern College of Optometry he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1950.

A Korean War Vet he served in Japan, France, plus many State side assignments including Environmental U S A H, Maryland, Ft. Riley, Kansas, Ft. Hood, Texas and Ft. Polk where he was Chief of the B J A C H Eye Clinic.

In 1953 Robert married Phyllis Edholm Carper in Sapporo, Japan.

He retired after 32 years in the Unites States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel, a member of American Optometric Association, a life time member of VFW, American Legion, ASMIC, NRA and served as President of Waynesboro, VA Chamber of Commerce where he was voided "Man Of The Year".

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Carper, daughter, Amy Carper Skalicky; sister, Janet Carper Lindly; one niece and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Charles.

He will be remembered by his family and friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.
