Dr. Ronald L. Powell, Sr.

A Mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Dr. Ronald L. Powell, Sr., will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 in St. Francis Xavier Cathedral with Rev. James Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Fellowship Methodist Cemetery, Hineston, LA under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 and again on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Dr. Ronald L. Powell, Sr., 81, of Pineville passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at his residence.

He is preceded in death by his parents Rufus Clarence and Mona Burnum Powell; his sister Margie Lane Powell and a brother Chaplain Rufus Clarence Powell, Jr.

Ronald was born on April 10, 1932 in Alexandria to Clarence and Mona Powell. He attended Bolton High School and graduated from Louisiana College with a degree in Pre-Dental. While attending dental school at Loyola University in New Orleans he met his wife Phyllis Ann Buckley. The couple married on June 23, 1956; after which time he served 2 years active duty in the United States Navy, then returned home and served in the reserves for 30 years. Upon returning to Louisiana he opened his own dental practice and served the Alexandria area for 46 years retiring in 2004. He served on the Louisiana Dental Association and held several officer positions including Treasurer. He was a proud member of the NRA. Ronald most enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing and hunting the lakes, rivers, and woodlands of Central Louisiana. He was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 57 years Phyllis Buckley Powell of Pineville; his sons: Ronnie L Powell, Jr.(Cathy) of Pineville, Ricky C. Powell (Tari) of Woodworth; his daughter Lisa P. DeWitt (Bobby) of Alexandria; his grandchildren: Sommer James, Blake Rabalais, Sara Stokes, Charlie Powell, Larry DeWitt, and Maggie DeWitt; his great grandchildren: Hunter, Madison, Beau and Ava.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Larry Dewitt, Charlie Powell, Blake Rabalais, Jared Stokes, David Corkern, James Price, and Jimmy Terry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alva Ladner, H.F. Phillips, Clyde Hollier, Harold Beebe, Nelon Meylian, Joe Campo, Joe Sempe', Charlie Vanderlick, and Ory Bordelon.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial be made to the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral Restoration Fund at 626 4th Street, Alexandria, LA 71301.
