Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Velma Marie Hammer will be held at10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, with Father James Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Pineville.

The family asks that visitation be observed, Monday January 14, 2013, at Hixson Brothers, Pineville, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Christian wake service will be Monday, January 14, 2013, at Hixson Brothers, Pineville, at 6:00 p.m.

Mrs. Hammer, 90, of Pineville, passed from this life on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at The Oaks Care Center in Pineville.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. During her working career she worked at Quality Casket Company as a finisher for 27 years and then went on to work at Rapides Regional Medical Center as a nursing assistant for 12 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother that was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Ellis Hammer; son, Ellis Hammer, Jr.; one grandson, James "Skeeter" Moreau; parents, Florian C. and Viola M. Rasch Ducote; brothers, Blume Ducote and Gerard Ducote; and sister, Sarah Belle Gunter.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Berverly Moreau and husband James of Poland, Louisiana; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Keith Nelson, Paul Tobey, Terry Hammer, Michael Hammer, Casey Tobey and Robert Moreau. Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Moreau, Wesley Moreau and Jeff Moreau.
