Mr. Perry was a larger than life character as a family friend when I was a kid. He was always kind and humble with just the right amount of strength necessary. Many fond memories of my youth include Mr. Leverne.

I didn't know him personally but knew him when I saw him. I found his credit card outside of
SAMS club one day and then saw him in the store and returned it to him. He was very grateful. My condolences to his family.

Laverne and his family lived across the street from us when I was a child, and I thought he hung the moon. He was a sweet, gentle man, and my knight in shining armor with his cowboy hat and boots. I still have my first pair of boots, bought when I was 5 or 6, so I could be a cowgirl!

He gave a lot to children of my generation through his "Little Wranglers" TV show, and we are all saddened by his passing.

LEVERNE WAS AN OUTSTANDING PERSON WITH A HEART OF GOLD. HE WAS ALWAYS PLEASANT AND HAD A SMILE ON HIS FACE AND IT WAS A PLEASURE TO HAVE KNOWN HIM ALL THESE MANY YEARS. THE HORSE INDUSTRY HAS LOST A GREAT MAN!

March 29, 2016

Girls: It was a pleasure knowing your dad. Hardin and I would go visit and these two guys would argue about who was the oldest. So now, they're together again, probably still having a ball. Leverne was a great public servant and I'm sure he loved all of you very much. He will always have a spot in the heart of Central Louisiana.

Leverne lived across the street from us when I was a teenager. My sister, who was much younger, thought he was a great hero and never missed his TV show. In later years I remember him as a good businessman and as a pillar of the community always willing to help with any worthwhile cause. In fact the last time I saw him he had volunteered to come to the kick-off announcement for Willie Harp's Perfect Fit Foundation, which provides shoes to needy school children. I know that he will be missed by his family, but he will also be missed by the community and all those who knew him.

So sad to see a local icon pass away. I lived in the Alexandria area for nearly 30 years, and I used to see Mr. Perry from time to time. I lived in Gardner for 19 years so I knew a lot of the same people who knew him all his life. I was very sad to learn of his death yesterday. For his surviving children and all those who loved him, know that he served his community well and left a lasting legacy that will not soon be forgotten.

This man was truly a figure in my life growing up in Cenla, my mother always bought my shoes from the " Tall Man in the Cowboy Hat" especially during the Easter shopping season. May his soul forever dwell in the Lord's......
