Alice Bolton Obituary

Alice Louise Johnson Bolton

11/17/1921-03/28/14

Funeral services celebrating the life of our mother will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Mora with Reverends Luther Despino, Walter Dixon and Morris Goins officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be observed at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Pineville, Monday, March 31, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will continue Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Friday morning, March 28, 2014, angels escorted our 92 year old mother to heaven, leaving us to follow her later. Meeting mother at heavens portal was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Eagerly waiting was her dear and much loved husband of 52 years, J. B. Bolton and her precious baby girl, Maureen, her three granddaughters, Kristen and Miranda Jeter and Sommer Suzanne Bolton. Also greeting mother was her father and mother, Albert Neely and Lydia M. Johnson, her brothers and sisters, Robert L. Johnson, Arlington "Jay" Johnson, Lucille Scarbrough, Shirley Giles and Etta Mae Martin.

Leaving behind to follow later, are her devoted children, Marilyn (Ernie) McIntosh, Bennie Bolton, Diane (Bobby) Reynolds, John D. Bolton, Joel Trentiss "Trent" Bolton, Richard "Ricky" (Donna) Bolton and Mary (Reggie) Jeter; siblings, Raymond Johnson, Verleen (Charles) Fuselier, Pearlie Starks and James Willard (Bonnie) Johnson; grandchildren, Tommie and Timmie Bolton, Donald (Beth) Dipuma, Jr., Donna (Tuley Filmore "Fil") Jones, John David, Johnathan Bolton, Krissy (Ryan) Brown, Urshala Bolton (Aaron) Carter, Amanda Bolton and Jared Jeter; great grandchildren, Christiana Bolton, Ashli Dipuma (Vance) LaCaze, Donald "Trey" (Mistie) Dipuma, III, Samantha, Makenzie and Jordan Jones, Zachery "Zach" and Caleb Grubbs; great-great grandchildren, Austen and Madilyn "Madi" LaCaze, Kaden Dipuma, Jackson and Callie Jane Bolton, Brylan, Sophia and Kaelin Brown and Jordan Carter.

Mother was a stay at home mom, all through the years, raising her children. As the nest became empty, she attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches to earn her certification to become a teacher's aide. She loved helping teach the young children at Gorum High and Coutierville Junior High and Elementary School, retiring from the Natchitoches Parish School System.

She and Daddy always brought us to Sunday school and church. They both loved the Lord and lived out their faith, as an example to their children. She loved teaching Sunday school and Bible school and did so even up to the time she learned she had Alzheimer's disease. God was gracious and stayed the progression of the disease so she could enjoy the last seven years of her life with her children.

She was a longtime member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, playing the organ and piano, sometimes serving as the song director and was the church clerk. She also served as secretary/treasurer for the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Association.

Mother became quite the celebrity in 2003 after standing up in a town hall meeting in Natchitoches, with Louisiana Public Service Commissioner, Foster Campbell, and asked the question of why she could not get a telephone. That was the spark that lit the fire and in 2005 telephone service came to Mink, Louisiana. There were television reports and numerous newspaper articles, featuring mother. Her story was even in the New York Times and her first telephone call was from Governor Kathleen Blanco.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Donald Dipuma, Jr., Jared Jeter, Ricky Bolton, Amanda Bolton, Urshala Carter and Aaron Carter. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby L. Reynolds, Ernie H. McIntosh, Fil Jones, Austen LaCaze, Zach and Caleb Grubbs.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Mike Hathorn, For all the help and support through the years at Regency House and for putting up with the "Bolton's". Thank you Donna Bunch, for your friendship and the loving care you gave our mother. Mother was truly blessed, as we were, to have so many wonderful friends at Regency. She became a social butterfly there and immediately became the "Domino Queen". We appreciate the care and support from the administration and staff, while at Tioga Manor Community Care. We will be eternally grateful to Nicki McManus, who took such good care of mother. They became fast friends and shared many conversations and laughs together. Nicki loved mother as everyone did. Mother's sweet spirit was a magnet to others and drew them to her.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish to honor mother with a memorial, the family requests donations be made to the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Association, in care of Diane Reynolds, 162 Taylor Road, Dry Prong, LA, 71423, or the charity of your choice.
