Ruth Dugas Albritton

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Ruth Dugas Albritton on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Church of the Little Flower in Evergreen with Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino officiating. Burial will be in the Church of the Little Flower cemetery under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie

Visitation will be at Church of the Little Flower on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 11:30 a.m. - 12:40 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 12:40 p.m. The family will continue to receive visitors after the burial in the Church of the Little Flower Church Hall.

Ruth Dugas Albritton was born in New Orleans, LA on February 23, 1930, to Walter Joseph and Clophine Descant Dugas. She was the eldest of four children including one sister, Geraldine Dugas Francois (deceased) and two brothers, Dr. Edmund A. Dugas of Carencro and Walter Joseph Dugas, Jr. of Denham Springs. She graduated from Evergreen High School in 1947, and then attended business school, marrying William Andrew Albritton in Nov., 1947. He preceded her in death.

She followed her husband when possible, during his military career, living in Prestwick, Scotland; Honolulu, Hawaii; Athens, Greece and various locations in the United States. In addition to being a housewife and mother, she was a career business woman and worked at the Housing Authority for the Town of Bunkie for thirty-eight years. She was a charter member of the Louisiana Housing Council and worked on various committees, including Retirement and Insurance. She assisted the HUD office in implementing new programs and services during construction of new housing units statewide. She was a member of the military wives club and the local chapter of the National Association of American Business Women. She also served on the Education Committee where she was instrumental in writing grants for local women which enabled them to continue their education. In addition, Mrs. Albritton was a charter member of the Bunkie Belles and she was honored by being elected as the first "Woman of the Year" by that organization. She served as Commander of the Avoyelles Parish DAV Auxiliary and won the State Commander's Award for her work. She felt honored to have assisted the late Edwin Rabalais in the formation of the Bunkie Chamber of Commerce. She was a former member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Bunkie and a present member of the Church of the Little Flower in Evergreen, where she was a member of both choirs.

She is survived by four children: Donna Jean Ferguson(Derek) of Madison, MS; Katherine Albritton Manda (Edward) of Lawrence, KS; William "Billy" A. Albritton, Jr.(Vallery) of Alexandria and Mary Carolyn Thoman (John) of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, John William Carter, III of Aspen, CO; Derek Bradley Ferguson (Jade) of Diamondhead, MS; Lauren Ferguson Mattiace (Richard) of Ocean Springs, MS; Jacob Edward Manda of Overland Park, KS; Matthew Manda of Washington, DC; Lee Andrew Albritton of Bunkie; Taylor John Albritton of Alexandria; Ellen Ann Albritton of Alexandria; and Colby Tyler Thoman (Cory) of Denham Springs, LA and four great grandchildren: Rylee Rae Albritton, William Colton Albritton, Harrison Bradley Ferguson and Henry Scott Ferguson. www.melanconfunerals.com
