Harold Strother Obituary

Harold Arthur Strother

Home Going Celebration Services, honoring the life and ministry of Harold Arthur Strother will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 24, 2016 in the Freedom Baptist Church of the Ten Mile Community with Brother Jeff James, Brother Wayne Squyres, and Brother Doug Mitchell officiating. Committal service will follow in the Occupy #1 Cemetery under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Harold, 86, of the Ten Mile Community, entered Heaven's Gate on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in the Beauregard Memorial Hospital of DeRidder with his loving family at his side. He was born March 16, 1929 in Oakdale to the union of Daniel Riley Strother and Jewel Josephine Brooks Strother. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and ordained as a deacon in October 1972. He loved his pastor and his church family. He was very active and faithful in his church until his health prevented him from doing so. He was a proud United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. He worked at Calcasieu Paper Mill in Elizabeth and worked/retired at Boise Cascade in Oakdale. He was a former foster parent. He remained active in farming and community service. His belief was to help others, and that he did and enjoyed it. His biggest joy was watching Buddy show his livestock. March 6, 1960, he married the love of his life, Ezelene Perkins-Strother and she was his soul mate for nearly 56 years, until her passing just 69 days prior to his home going. Harold will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, James Farrell Strother, Willie "Bo" (wife Joyce) Strother, and Gordon Strother; one sister, Helen Strother; two nephews, Darren Strother and Robert Brown; one niece, (by marriage), LaNell Knapp-Fee.

He is survived by one daughter, JaNene Strother-Willis and husband Macy of Fullerton; one grandson, Huel Daniel "Buddy" Willis of Fullerton; four step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; one sister, Dianna Strother-Brown and husband Roy of Elizabeth; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Perkins-Knapp; he is also survived by his "Jelly Beans", his precious caregivers; in addition to Buddy, ReAnna, Kade, Carmen "Car-Car", Karissa, Lanie, Gavin and Olivia, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and a host of great friends.

Pallbearers to serve will be his nephews, Bryan Strother, Scotty Strother, Farrell Strother, Bryan Strother II, Cory Strother, Zachary Strother, Ray Brown, and Colton Eastwood. Honorary pallbearers to serve will be his nephew, Kenneth Strother; and some of his closest friends, Bill Cunningham, Robert Rasberry, Trent Doyle, Roy Cloud, Troy Thibodeaux, Hollis Mancil, and Carl Doyle; along with fellow deacons and dear friends, Bryant Thompson, Robert Friday, and David Rasmussen.

Visitation will be held in the Freedom Baptist Church beginning on Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m., then on Sunday, January 24, 2016 from 8 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m.
