Walter Frederick "Fred" Dyer

Services for Walter Frederick "Fred" Dyer will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 23, 2016 in the chapel of Kramer Funeral Home with Rev. Cliff Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Alexandria Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home beginning at 11 A.M. Saturday until the time of service.

Walter Frederick Dyer died peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2016, at Grace Home in Alexandria. Fred was a devoted son, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

Fred was born in Darby, Pennsylvania on December 05, 1937, to Burma Harris Dyer and The Honorable Wilbur Dyer.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents. Fred is survived by two daughters, Karen Elizabeth "Beth" Saacks, D. D. S. (husband, Matthew) of Mandeville, Louisiana, and Nancy Lee Dyer of Natchitoches, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Evan Jacob Saacks, Noah Zachary Saacks, Gavin Michael Saacks, Jeremy Drake Saacks, Alyssa Lee Martin and Winfred Erbin "Trey" McDowell III; a sister, Burma Dyer Downs of Alexandria; a brother, Wilbur Ronald "Pete" Dyer of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a niece, Kyle Downs Drerup of Alexandria and two nephews, Stephen Dyer Downs, M. D., of Alexandria and James Gilfoil Dyer of Orange, Texas, and his long-time companion, Bernadine "Bernie" Hunley.

Fred grew up in Cheneyville, Louisiana, and graduated from Cheneyville High School in 1956. He attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge graduating in three years with a B.S. in Business. He joined the Army and served as an Officer stationed in Germany from 1960 to 1962. He returned to live in Alexandria and joined Guaranty Bank as a Systems Analyst, pioneering the computerization of banking statements.

Fred was a Charter Member and former past President of The Cenla Cosmopolitan Club. He was an avid bowler, participating in many leagues throughout the years. Fred was often remembered for his charming wit, describing himself as "six foot two, eyes of blue".

Pallbearers honored to serve shall be his six grandchildren, Evan, Noah, Gavin, Jeremy, Alyssa and Trey; along with his cousins, Hadley Lyle "Sonny" Dyer and John Machen "Johnny" Dyer.

Honorary Pallbearers shall be Stephen Dyer Downs, M. D. and Douglas Edwards O'Kelley.

The Saacks and Dyer families would like to express their deep appreciation to Z. Terry Buckalew, M. D., Roberto Garcia, M. D., Joshua Sleeper, M. D., Steven Saccaro, M. D., Kelly Letsinger, M. D. and all the staff of Grace Home at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital for their kindness and excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christus Hospice and Palliative Care, 4801 Jackson Street Extension, Suite B, Alexandria, Louisiana 71303 in memory of W. Fred Dyer.
