Services celebrating the life of Evelyn Janice Atkinson Conway will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 27, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Pineville, with Dr. C. Stewart Holloway officiating. Graveside services will follow at Butters Cemetery, Forest Hill under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Pineville.
The family asks that visitation be observed Friday July 26, 2013 from 5-9 p.m. at Hixson Brothers in Pineville and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the Church.
Mrs. Conway, 90, passed away Saturday July 20, 2013 peacefully in her residence in Magnolia, Texas where she had lived for the last 6 years.
Evelyn was born August 14, 1922 in Goosecreek, Texas. She graduated from Minden High School in 1939 where she was Editor in Chief of Minden High School Newspaper "The Megaphone" and Queen of the Mardi Gras Ball. She graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute of Ruston, (Tech) with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1943, was a Member of the Beta Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Kappa, a Member the Blue Jackets and an Eastern Star. She served in the Women's Missionary Union and taught Sunday school for many years.
Evelyn married Lucian Conway in Miami, Florida in 1945. They began a marriage of service to God faithfully helping others. Lucian and Evelyn started Bible Schools in small churches, bused children to churches, taught English to new Americans, and countless other acts of kindness.
Evelyn was also a successful businesswoman running Tape City, USA in Alexandria for many years. She was a respected accountant and many depended on her tax return abilities. She was an inspiration to all for her talents and determination.
Evelyn's most important contribution was being a loving mother to six, grandmother to 17 and great grandmother to 21 and counting.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years Reverend Lucian Gideon Conway, Sr.; son Dr. Lucian Gideon Conway, Jr.; and parents Sadie Ray Bouldin Atkinson and George Henry Atkinson, Sr.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Karen Conway Daniel, Rebecca Conway Miller and husband, Cliff, Jerry Andrew Conway and wife, Teena, Terri Conway Combs and husband, Roger and Priscilla Janice Conway Damrel and husband, Ray; daughter in law, Suzanne Olson Conway; brother, George Henry Atkinson, Jr.; grandchildren, Dr. Lucian Gideon "Luke" Conway III and wife, Kathrene, Elizabeth Conway Plachta and husband, Tim, Allison Conway Miller and husband, Greg, Christina Evelyn Conway, Kenneth Michael Daniel and wife, Sherry, Keely Daniel Bosley and husband, Ronald "Bo", Kyle Conway Daniel and wife, Allison, Jamie Miller Duffin and husband, Edward, Seth Miller and wife Elisha, Rachel Salley Deckler and husband, Aaron, Caroline Conway Elliott and husband, Coleman, Blake Andrew Conway, Cole Alexander Conway, Lauren Combs Wilkes and husband, Brandon, Jacqueline LaBorde Gillette and husband, Charles, Jessica LaBorde Tuttle and husband, Brian, and Ashton Stephen Damrel; great grandchildren, Autumn Conway, Ella Mae Plachta, Ruby Plachta, Hayden Daniel, Brooke Daniel, Cole Daniel, Jake Bosley, Avery Bosley, Hannah Daniel , Hope Janice Daniel, Shaun Miller, Alayna Miller,Kaylee Miller, Ari Deckler, Miette Deckler, Asher Deckler, Campbell Elliott, Alexandra Gillette, Madeline Tuttle, Violet Tuttle and William Tuttle.
